GRS-BN cooperation needed for Sabah’s development: Bersatu

KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Bersatu information chief Khairul Firdaus Akbar has maintained that the relationship between Bersatu and Barisan Nasional must remain intact via the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-Barisan Nasional (GRS-BN) alliance to avoid further disruptions in the state.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a dialogue with other party information chiefs, Khairul said that his state has suffered due to the frequent change of governments.

“Basically, in Sabah as all of us are aware, the relationship between GRS and BN are intact because our main focus is to develop the state and jaga the welfare of the rakyat.

“There is no reason for history to repeat itself where the state has suffered so much in terms of development with the constant government changes.

“This is why both alliances should work together and it is clear under (Datuk Seri) Hajiji (Noor) and (Datuk Seri) Bung Moktar (Radin) their objectives are to develop Sabah,” he said, referring to the state’s Bersatu chief minister and his Umno deputy respectively.

Earlier, Bersatu’s national information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan, who led the dialogue, had also told reporters that he hopes Umno will decide what is best for the people of Sabah when it comes to their decision to cooperate with his party.

“I think the decision of other parties, we should leave it to them. It is not right for us to give our comments on what they should or should not do.

“But it is my hope any decision taken will benefit the people of Sabah,” he said.

Bung, who is also Sabah Umno chief, is in the process of consulting with his party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on the possible cooperation in the state.

Wan Saiful said it is his party’s stance to be open to cooperation with other parties, although some parties refused.

“Our attitude generally, we are friendly and want to be very stable and consistent to build a cohesive partnership with others,” said Wan Saiful. – The Vibes, March 29, 2022
