KUALA LUMPUR – Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin will be summoned before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) over the development and acquisition of the MySejahtera application.

The proceedings will begin in mid-April and will also see a representative from the Prime Minister’s Department summoned to provide testimony.

“The issue surrounding the development and acquisition of the MySejahtera app must be explained transparently before the nonpartisan committee as it involves the people’s interests,” read a statement by PAC chairman Wong Kah Woh.

Last week, PAC released a report where senior civil servants summoned before the committee said the government is studying whether it should sign a contract of service with the company that developed MySejahtera.

The idea was for the developer to manage the software, or outright buy the company to secure full rights over the application.

The report revealed that the cabinet had decided to transfer ownership of MySejahtera from the developer to a special purpose vehicle called MySJ Sdn Bhd, which was appointed through direct negotiation.

This subsequently drew public outcry with concerns being raised over the app’s alleged ownership on personal user data by a private company.

However, the health minister later clarified that the application and all the data it stores is owned by the government. – The Vibes, March 30, 2022
