KUALA LUMPUR – A serial “solo” criminal, who was arrested for murdering a security van guard in a robbery in front of a bank in Puchong Prima on March 11, has been charged with murder at the Shah Alam High Court today.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said the suspect was also charged with the attempted murder of the victim’s colleague, who was shot in the abdomen.

Jalil said the man was also charged with the murder of a policeman who was killed five years ago while on duty at the USJ Pinggiran police station.

The suspect was also charged with committing three other armed bank robberies that took place around Subang Jaya and Shah Alam, Selangor.

“The charges were made under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence, and Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years, if found guilty,” he said in a statement.

He added that the accused was also charged with the illegal possession of a semi-automatic Walther P99 pistol, which was stolen from the murdered policeman.

“The pistol was in the man’s possession when he was arrested and investigation revealed that the same pistol was used in bank robberies.”

The accused, he said, was also charged under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which carries a jail term of up to 14 years and not less than six strokes of the cane, apart from Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which carries the death penalty, if convicted. – The Vibes, April 12, 2022
