KUALA LUMPUR – Police today said they will take appropriate action against a female officer with the narcotics department who broadcasted a recent raid live on her TikTok account.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the act went against the police force’s code of conduct and that they have already identified the officer involved.

“As what was seen, the officer was doing it purely to promote her personal TikTok account, so we will not compromise with such actions. Action will be taken against those who breach our regulations,” he told a news conference at Bukit Aman.

“The officer in question is indeed from the Bukit Aman NCID department and is of the rank of assistant superintendent.”

Ayob said the actions of the officer went against three internal circulars issued in 2014, 2020, and 2021, which prohibit police officers from broadcasting their official duties on social media.

He said they will wait for the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department to complete its probe into the matter before deciding on the next course of action.

The video, which went viral on social media, showed a female officer narrating her experience during a narcotics raid at an unidentified entertainment centre, with her face and name tag fully visible, including those of other officers at the raid.

The officer had during the video expressed her excitement at having more than 1,400 viewers tune in to the broadcast, adding that she hoped her social media account reaches 100,000 subscribers.

The video sparked backlash among social media users, with many questioning her professionalism for starting a live broadcast while on the job. – The Vibes, April 25, 2022
