KUALA LUMPUR – Although MySejahtera check-ins will no longer be mandatory from May 1 onwards, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has warned action will be taken against individuals who abuse the easing of restrictions.

In a statement today, the minister reminded that positive cases and those under home surveillance orders (HSO) are to observe their quarantines and are not allowed to enter any premises.

He said premises owners and enforcement officers have been given the authority to conduct random checks of the Covid-19 risk statuses of visitors through the MySejahtera contact tracing app.

“Visitors must act responsibly and provide their cooperation to the owners or enforcement authorities, for everyone’s safety and wellbeing,” Khairy said.

“If your status is found to be high-risk, action can be taken against you under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 for failing to adhere to set rules, as well as for posing a risk to the public.”

On Wednesday, the Rembau MP had announced that starting next month, it is no longer required for the public to check into premises by scanning their QR codes with MySejahtera.

Instead, premises owners need only check the risk status of visitors before allowing entry, while the previous condition barring the unvaccinated from patronising businesses and services in person has also been lifted.

Khairy said following an engagement session with business and retail associations today, it has been agreed that the responsibility to ensure a safe business ecosystem free of Covid-19 should also fall on every individual.

“Those who are visiting premises like shopping malls, eateries and sundry shops are responsible to ensure they are not Covid-19 positive or under HSO.”

The minister noted that under the latest National Security Council standard operating procedures, positive cases must undergo isolation either at their residences (Categories 1 and 2), quarantine centres or hospitals (Categories 3, 4 and 5).

Similarly, those under HSO must also isolate themselves according to the stipulated period. – The Vibes, April 29, 2022
