MIRI – Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB) will protest against any initiative to include mandatory Jawi lessons in public schools.
It said in a statement that any attempts by the Education Ministry to make Jawi lessons compulsory will be rejected.
Party president Bobby William said it is not right to force all students to learn Jawi as it is not necessary for non-Muslims.
“If the lessons are optional, it is acceptable. Give students a choice whether they want to learn Jawi.”
He said more urgent subjects that students need to improve on are English, mathematics and science.
“The quality and performance of students in these subjects have declined to low levels. The ministry must focus on how to get students to improve in these subjects.”
PBDSB is the main opposition Dayak-party in Sarawak. – The Vibes, May 12, 2022
