BUKIT MERTAJAM – A man in his 30s, believed to have been slashed, succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to Bukit Mertajam Hospital at 8.20pm yesterday, while undergoing treatment at the emergency ward.

Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Shafee Samad said police received information from the public about an incident where the man was attacked with a sharp weapon after a fight apparently broke out.

It is understood that a woman and four men were somehow involved in the matter.

Shafee said the assailants were known to the victim.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects involved in the crime, he added.

Three video clips believed to be related to the incident, lasting 17 seconds, 10 seconds and five seconds, have gone viral on social media.

The victim suffered serious body injuries and was rushed to the hospital by members of the public from Kg Baru who also alerted the police.

“We are also investigating the reasons and cause for the attack,” he said.

A post-mortem has been conducted at the mortuary.

Shafee appealed to the public and eyewitnesses to provide information related to the incident by contacting investigation officer Ahmad Shahir Adnan at 019-951-7045 or 04-5382-222.

The case is being investigated under section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. – The Vibes, May 15, 2022
