BUTTERWORTH – The roof of the Sri Pinang flats in Sg Puyu here was blown off by strong winds during a downpour at 4.30pm yesterday, causing damage to cars parked below.

No one was injured in the incident.

A 35-year-old factory worker, who lives on the sixth floor, said he has never experienced such a storm before.

“I moved in several months ago. It was scary. Thank God, no one was injured.”

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Noorzainy Mohd Noor said officers were deployed to the scene to assess the situation and assist residents.

Three vehicles were damaged, he said.

“It is not the first time this has happened here,” said state Environment and Welfare Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh.

“The roof will be replaced immediately. Insurers will assess the damage.

“We will remove the damaged vehicles once the weather improves. The bad weather is expected to last until tomorrow.” – The Vibes, November 17, 2020
