KOTA KINABALU – A total of 98 illegal immigrants including 53 children who had been staying in the state capital here were arrested and sent away by the authority, yesterday. 

Kota Kinabalu (KK) City Hall Mayor Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip in a statement today said that the immigrants were arrested at Kg Sembulan water village and at a squatter village in front of the Sabah Printing Department office.

The operation took place from 7am to 2pm after authorities were fed with information from the public.

She said a total of 109 personnel from various agencies including the KK City Hall, National Security Council, Royal Malaysian Police, Sabah Immigration Department, Sabah Health Department, Health Ministry, Civil Defence Force, Sabah Social Welfare Department and others. 

A total of 105 individuals were arrested for suspicion of lacking valid self-identification documents.

Seven were later released by the National Security Council for health reasons. 

The remaining 98 individuals consisted of 13 men, 27 women, and 53 children made up of 26 boys and 32 girls.

“They had been sent to Semporna with three buses which took off from KK at about 3pm yesterday,” Noorliza said. 

She said KK City Hall hopes that integrated operations can be continued in the future according to needs from time to time to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents and visitors here. – The Vibes, June 30, 2022.
