MIRI – A young family of four was killed in an accident along the Saratok-Sarikei section of the Pan Borneo Highway in central Sarawak earlier today.

In a statement, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said that the 7am accident saw the couple and their two little children crushed to death inside their car after a collision with a cargo trailer near the junction into Roban town, which is roughly 300km north of Kuching.

“The family inside the car was a man aged 30, a woman aged 28, and their two children. The two children were a toddler aged 4 and a baby boy aged one year and three months.

“Medical personnel from an ambulance that arrived at the site confirmed (that) all those in the car died at the scene.

“The victims were all trapped inside the wreckage,” said the department.

The car was reduced to a twisted heap of metal due to the impact of the collision with the trailer, but the trailer driver was unhurt.

Fire and rescue units from Roban rushed to the site after receiving an emergency call from members of the public.

The firefighters had to use special tools to cut through the wreckage in order to reach the bodies of the victims.

The case has been referred to police, said the department. – The Vibes, July 11, 2022
