KUALA LUMPUR – Police have confirmed receiving two reports on a bullying case involving a female student at the Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) in Kuantan.
Kuantan district police chief Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the reports were lodged by the school warden and the mother of the alleged victim.
According to Malaysia Gazette, Wan Zahari said the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code. This section pertains to committing mischief and damage or loss.
“Reports have been made by the warden and the complainant. Police are investigating every angle related to this case,” he was quoted as saying by the news portal.
Nazrah Mohamed, the mother of the alleged victim, took to Facebook yesterday with a timeline of what her daughter experienced. She also claimed that no action had been taken by the Kuantan MRSM management.
Nazrah said the boarding school had a culture of “treachery and gangsterism” and that her daughter had been bullied and harassed by an individual since June this year.
School uniforms belonging to the 14-year-old as well as other students had been cut and torn, and the school authorities blamed her daughter for this even though she was a victim herself, Nazrah said.
She shared photos of the damaged uniforms as well as a photo of locks of hair belonging to the teen that had been cut while she was asleep.
Nazrah said she complained to the school authorities, but the deputy head of student development told her that her child had been referred to a school counsellor for anxiety, and also advised her child to seek psychiatric treatment.
“In what capacity and expertise does the college have to declare that my child has anxiety and depression?” Nazrah said.
She added that subsequent checks with a psychiatrist revealed her child to be healthy and well.
Meanwhile, Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, whose ministry oversees Mara colleges, said strict action will be taken against the students involved in the case.
The perpetrator can be expelled based on Mara’s standard operating procedures, he said today at an event in Selangor.
“For instance, a student was expelled from Kepala Batas MRSM, when the disciplinary board confirmed that the student was bullying others,” he said after visiting the 2022 Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition. – The Vibes, August 13, 2022
