KUALA LUMPUR – Umno top leaders remain tight-lipped over what transpired at the party’s Supreme Council meeting last night.
Those who passed through the row of some 30 media personnel did not respond to questions, only hurrying to exit Menara Dato’ Onn.
Umno Sabah chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin was the only one who stopped to briefly say that the meeting only touched on “solidarity” among party members ahead of the general election.
When asked whether the meeting discussed an exact date for the general election or if Parliament is to be dissolved soon, he denied that it was brought up during the meeting.
“That is the prerogative of the prime minister,” he said, referring to Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin also responded with “solidarity” when repeatedly questioned by reporters on details of the meeting.
The meeting, which started at 8:30pm, ended at 11:30pm.
It was chaired by party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi with all Supreme Council members in attendance, including Ismail Sabri.
Earlier, the party held a special briefing following the imprisonment of Datuk Seri Najib Razak after his conviction in the SRC International Bhd corruption case was upheld by the Federal Court on Tuesday.
During his speech to some 3,000 party members in attendance for the briefing, Zahid stressed that an early general election was necessary to put an end to the “hybrid” and unstable government led by Ismail Sabri. – The Vibes, August 28, 2022
