KUALA LUMPUR – Muda is ready to hold official talks with Pakatan Harapan (PH) to iron out concerns about its potential cooperation with the opposition coalition, said the party’s deputy president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz.
Amira said she and her party comrades want to ensure that the people clearly understand what the opposition has to offer when it contests in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).
“Despite the record of Muda and PH having worked together, I still understand every criticism and doubts from our friends in Pakatan Harapan. It is only natural to raise many questions when putting a coalition together,” she said in a statement on Facebook.
“In fact, Muda’s commitment is to ensure the new relationship (with PH) will continue to expand, not only as a team for GE15, but for all the people’s struggles in the future,” the Puteri Wangsa assemblyman said in a statement on Facebook.
On Tuesday, Muda announced its intention to join the PH coalition while dismissing any cooperation with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s newly established Gerakan Tanah Air coalition.
In response, PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday said the coalition will be discussing matters related to fledgling Muda joining the coalition as soon as possible.
Anwar did not deny the possibility of such a collaboration, but he said the matter has yet to be deliberated upon by PH leaders.
Meanwhile, Amira said the issue of Muda’s intention to join PH had made headlines across the country. She said that although many quarters see this as a “bold” and “progressive” effort, some have raised doubts and criticism about the youth party’s intentions.
“Some say that Muda is not sincere in its struggle. There are those who add that Muda is the grandchild of ‘Atuk’ (grandfather, referring to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad).
“In fact, there are also those who say that (Muda co-founder) Syed Saddiq (Syed Abdul Rahman) had previously jumped between parties and therefore could not be trusted,” she said.
Syed Saddiq was previously with Bersatu when it was chaired by Mahathir. Both have since left the party.
“I want to stress here that all these claims are not only untrue but were made up by a strange imagination.”
She added that one cannot link Muda to Dr Mahathir and Pejuang, as the youth party is not their “proxy”. She added that Muda and Pejuang have disagreed on many fundamental issues.
Amira also said that Muda wants to uplift the people, regardless of their race, religion, or colour of their skin.
“During the Johor election, we moved alongside PH, which was very clear,” she said, referring to the polls in March this year.
“Any extraordinary conspiracy (claim) that alleges Muda met with Tun (Dr) Mahathir to ask for permission to join PH is certainly wrong,” she added. – The Vibes, September 11, 2022
