KUALA LUMPUR – Nooryana Najwa, the daughter of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, has explained that the RM10.3 million she supposedly failed to declare to the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) involved non-taxable gifts from her husband and in-laws.
Expressing her relief on Instagram that the IRB had formally withdrawn its appeal on her tax case, she said the matter had never made sense.
“We had already settled my tax case after my tax agents and IRB went through my case and they finally agreed that wang hantaran, ‘nafkah’ from my husband, and a house fully purchased by my in-laws using funds from abroad are not taxable.”
Nooryana is married to Kazakhstan national Daniyar Kessibayev.
Earlier today, it was reported that the government through the IRB had withdrawn without costs its case against Nooryana over allegedly unpaid income tax between 2011 and 2017 amounting to RM10.3 million
A bid by IRB to obtain a summary judgement against Nooryana was due to be heard today at the Court of Appeal in an online session. A notice of discontinuance, however, was filed last Monday by the IRB, according to Nooryana’s lawyer Wee Yeong Kang.
“Alhamdulillah… today, IRB formally withdrew their appeal of my tax case.
“It never was and made no sense,” she said on Instagram.
Nooryana said she had already won her case at the high court level in August 2020 but the IRB appealed.
She also likened the case against her to a similar one brought against her father for RM1.7 billion in unpaid taxed, calling it “nonsensical”.
“(It was the) then Pakatan Harapan (PH) government’s sole objective was to persecute my family using IRB even if it meant breaking all laws and rules, relying on abusing the “pay first, talk later” clause.” – The Vibes, October 5, 2022.
