TUARAN – Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has taken a jab at opposition leader Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and Upko’s outgoing president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau as he drums up support from Bersatu members at the federal constituency ahead of the general election today.

The chairman of both Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Sabah Bersatu did not mince his words when describing Warisan as only being good at talking while having achieved nothing, and said Tangau had also disrupted Barisan Nasional’s (BN) polls victory in Sabah in the 2018 general election.

“They (Warisan) are only good at talking but have achieved nothing over the two and a half years running the state government. No direction.

“The only thing they are proud of was the BESS cooking oil production.

“But when I checked with the company which owns BESS, Benta Wawasan, they were making a loss.

“But this is the only thing they can be proud of,” he told hundreds of Bersatu members attending the party’s Tuaran division meeting here today.

On Tangau, Hajiji said the incumbent MP will not stand a chance of retaining the Tuaran seat after what he has done after the 14th general election (GE14).

He said Tangau would not have won the federal seat if not for the votes of the Sulaman voters, which he has betrayed by switching sides.

Hajiji is the Sulaman assemblyman.

In GE14, Upko switched its allegiance from BN to Warisan-PH, giving the Warisan-PH alliance the majority it needed to form the Sabah government.

The state government comprises Warisan-PH-Upko, which also included Bersatu then.

Bersatu left PH to form Perikatan Nasional during the Sheraton Move, paving the way for the alliance to form the federal government with support from BN.

Subsequently, the Warisan-PH-Upko government also collapsed in 2020, leading to the GRS poll victory along with BN in the Sabah election the same year.

“I am not sure whether Upko will contest in Tuaran or not. The president (Tangau) is not strong down here. Upko is the main traitor in 2018.

“We all know his poll victory came from us. The votes had come from Sulaman (Hajiji’s state seat). If it had not been for us, he would have lost in the election at the time.

“He (Tangau) also lost to PBS in the Sabah elections in 2020.

“If he contests in Tuaran again, he will not win. This time GRS will win,” he added. – The Vibes, October 13, 2022
