JOHOR BARU – The Environment Department has imposed an equipment operation suspension order on a metal plating factory in Tanjung Langsat, Pasir Gudang, here after it was found guilty of heavy waste discharge.

The DoE said in a statement on its official Facebook page that the factory was inspected by 10 enforcement officers from Pasir Gudang and the state department in the past two days from 10am until 1am.

According to him, the results of the inspection found that the air and effluent control devices at the factory failed to operate properly, and that areas in the production process operated without control devices.

“Furthermore, scheduled waste was not properly managed under the Environmental Quality (Clean Air) Regulations 2014, Environmental Quality (Industrial Effluent) Regulations 2009, and Environmental Quality (Scheduled Waste) Regulations 2005,” he said.

According to the DoE, which also ordered remedial action, the suspension is in accordance with Section 38(1)(a) of the Environmental Quality Act 1974 to stop pollution from continuing.

DoE said that scheduled effluents and waste have also been sampled for further enforcement action.

The department reminded all industrial premises to always comply with the Environmental Quality Act 1974 and Regulations and warned that action will be taken if one is found committing environmental pollution offences. – Bernama, October 13, 2022
