KOTA BARU – Kelantan Mufti Datuk Mohamad Shukri Mohamad today reminded political parties and candidates contesting in the 15th general election (GE15) against using houses of worship as campaigning venues.

He said houses of worship such as mosques, surau, and musolla should be made “zones of peace” free of any political influence.

“Do not create an atmosphere that can cause misunderstanding and rifts among the Muslim ummah (community). These mosques, surau, and musolla should not be used for political campaigns or to hold political talks because they are places of worship, for the unification of the ummah.

“Hence, they should be made zones of peace and free from the influence of any political party,” he said when contacted today.

Shukri said the public should lodge reports with the relevant authorities if they found party candidates or machinery using houses of worship for campaigning purposes.

The Election Commission has set November 19 as polling day for GE15. Nomination day is tomorrow and early voting is on November 15. – Bernama, November 4, 2022
