KUALA LUMPUR – A corruption watchdog group has erred in alleging that DAP’s candidate for Puchong, Yeo Bee Yin, would have conflicts of interest by standing for election in the constituency where IOI Properties Group Bhd supposedly holds large swathes of land.
Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han, who is also from DAP, said the Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4 Centre) mistakenly listed several properties and development projects with the name “Puchong” in them when these were in fact outside of the Puchong constituency.
“Most of the properties or locations mentioned in the statement are located in Kinrara constituency, a state seat under the Subang Parliament (seat),” said Ng in a statement.
“This includes Bandar Puteri Puchong, Puchong Jaya, IOI Boulevard Puchong, Sheraton Puchong and IOI Mall of Puchong.
“Meanwhile, Sierra 16 and IOI City Mall are in Sepang Parliament (seat).
“As such, no IOI Property development exists in the Puchong Parliament area to date.”
Ng, who is DAP Selangor secretary, was responding to a statement by C4 Centre today expressing concern over possible conflicts of interest that Yeo’s Puchong candidacy might cause – given that she has links to IOI Properties Group through marriage.
C4 named several properties owned by the group which it alleged were within the Puchong constituency.
Yeo, meanwhile, tweeted that “a constituency name and the areas it covers sometimes are not the same”.
