KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) has not held any official discussions for collaborations with other parties as the focus now is on winning the 15th general election (GE15), said PN information chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

He said PN would use the campaign period to convince the people of its pro-business policies, and efforts to create jobs and give the people assurance of its concern and care for them.

He told this to reporters after attending a get-together event with the residents of Kg Kemensah here today.

He was asked to comment on the statement made by Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi saying that BN was ready to work with any party coalition if it fails to get a simple majority in the November 19 polls.

On the challenges of the GE15, the PN candidate for the Gombak parliamentary seat said they not only have to maintain voter support but also to woo the nearly 70,000 new voters, which has brought the total number of voters in the constituency to 206,000 compared with 140,000 for years ago.

He said voters should give PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin a chance because he had successfully steered the country during the Covid-19 pandemic when he was the prime minister of which at that time his focus was the people’s safety and rebuilding the country’s economy.

On Pakatan Harapan (PH), Azmin said the coalition had the people’s support once but it was dominated by a party that had issued statements offending the feelings of the Malays and Malaysians in general, which led to its defeat in six by-elections when it was ruling the country.

The caretaker international trade and industry minister is facing a five-cornered contest for the Gombak seat.

His challengers are Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (PH-PKR), Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin (BN-Umno), Datuk Dr Aziz Jamaludin Mhd Tahir (Pejuang-Putra) and independent candidate Zulkifli Ahmad.

Azmin won the seat in the GE14 on a PKR ticket with a 48,721-vote majority defeating Datuk Abdul Rahim Kamarudin (BN) and Khairil Nizam (PAS). – Bernama, November 6, 2022
