KUALA LUMPUR – Razman Zakaria, who is Perikatan Nasional’s candidate for the Gunung Semanggol state seat, is under police investigation for allegedly slandering Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Bukit Aman internal security and public order department director Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali said in a statement that Razman’s speech at Perak’s Tebuk Panchor morning market allegedly has malicious intent towards Anwar, who is running for the Tambun parliamentary seat.
This case is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (posting an offensive remark online).
He said this is of the four investigation papers related to the general election while the other two are in Kedah and one in Terengganu.
Meanwhile, the police are also investigating a burnt tent in Taman Cili, Lunas in Kedah as well as Barisan Nasional flags being removed and thrown into the drain.
A suspect has been detained and a remand application has been made today.
In a separate case in Kedah, a man in Langkawi lodged a report that he received a threatening phone call after he was picked to head the Pulau Tuba voting centre.
These two cases are being investigated under the Election Offences Act and the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, a complainant in Kemaman, Terengganu found two banners defaming a Barisan Nasional candidate.
Hazani said a total of 997 ceramah programmes took place with police permits, of which 193 were in Sabah, 144 in Sarawak, Johor (125), Selangor (113) and Perak (102).
Some 72 ceramah programmes were without permits, of which 21 were in Negri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur (15), Perak (14), Selangor (13) and Kedah (5). – The Vibes, November 8, 2022
