SANDAKAN – PAS’ sole Sabah assemblyman, Aliakbar Gulasan, yesterday visited a landslide-hit Buddhist temple in Taman Indah Jaya at Mile 4 here, seeking to help resolve problems faced by devotees.
He asked the Tian Fatt Vui Lin temple management committee to submit a formal application for an allocation to repair the damaged house of worship.
The Sabah PAS secretary, who was appointed to the state assembly after the September 26 state election, told the committee to request that the government take action to prevent another landslide, from the hill behind the temple, from occurring.
“I will take their applications to the attention of the government.”
Aliakbar has also received applications from 25 committee members and other Chinese to join the Islamist party’s supporters’ council.
He said the council, set up for non-Muslims, shows that PAS is an “open” party.
“PAS fights with the ‘fair for all’ sentiment, without discriminating against people according to race and religion, especially in Sabah. PAS will help solve issues faced by the community. We value our friendship with other races.
“Those who claim that PAS is extreme are from small, extreme groups that are finding other parties to blame.
“In the context of the state government, PAS will help all parties fairly, regardless of their position, race, religion and political ideology.”
Sabah PAS deputy commissioner Sahar Abdul Majid, meanwhile, said the party’s concept of harmony applies to all races.
“PAS’ vision and mission clearly show that the party wants unity and national integration to be strengthened. PAS in Kelantan is a role model that has never turned its back on people of different races.” – The Vibes, November 29, 2020
