MIRI – Sarawak’s Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component parties have yet to agree yet on any official pact with any political coalitions to form the federal government.
Tiong today told reporters in Kuching that GPS needs a clearer direction before it can collectively decide on a coalition and prime minister candidate that it would support.
“We in GPS need a clearer direction before any conclusive decision on who we will support for the federal government,” he said after attending the state assembly sitting, this evening.
“At the moment, the moment there is no decision yet from GPS as the parties in the peninsula are still trying to work things out.”
Tiong said GPS will need to wait until the situation in the peninsula becomes clearer before it decides on its next move.
His remarks appear to be in stark contrast to the announcement by GPS chairman and State Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, who yesterday said that GPS has agreed to work with Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional, and Gerakan Rakyat Sabah to form the Federal Government and to have Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin as the next prime minister.
Meanwhile, PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he had reached out to Abang Johari Openg to invite GPS to be part of the unity government he plans to form in Putrajaya.
Anwar said he had reached out to Abang Johari today and explained why aligning with PH would be a better option for Sarawak, as opposed to Perikatan Nasional (PN).
He said PH can ensure Sarawak and Sabah enter into a true partnership that will ensure the people there are treated equitably. – The Vibes, November 21, 2022
