KOTA KINABALU – All eyes will be on Sabah’s anti-hopping bill which is expected to be tabled at the state assembly sitting convening tomorrow.

Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan, who is also Sabah STAR president, told The Vibes today that the state government will be focusing on the state’s 2023 budget, and confirmed that the anti-hopping bill will be tabled after the money bill is passed.

In September, Jeffrey had said the state government would table a bill to amend the state constitution in relation to anti-party hopping during the state assembly sitting in November.

Kadamaian assemblyman Datuk Ewon Benedick, who is also Upko president, said he would be focusing only on the anti-hopping law and budget for this sitting and had submitted 40 questions to the speaker.

“Of course, I will also be raising questions regarding the anti-hopping law,” he told The Vibes when contacted.

Ewon, who had won the Penampang parliamentary seat in the 15th general election last Saturday, said the polls results may have no impact on the Sabah government or the assembly sitting.

Sabah DAP secretary cum Luyang representative Phoong Jin Zhe said he did not know if the formation of the new federal government would have an impact on the sitting, but he was keen to debate the anti-hopping bill.

Both Ewon and Phoong, who had submitted a motion to revoke the Petronas Agreement in the last Sabah assembly sitting in July, did not submit any motion this time. – The Vibes, November 24, 2022
