KUALA LUMPUR – The wellbeing of Malaysians including the Indian community falls under the responsibility of the whole cabinet, not only individual ministers of a certain race, said the sole Indian minister.
Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar has refuted assumptions that the Indian community will be marginalised just because he is the ethnic group’s only representative in the cabinet.
He added that there are many Indian lawmakers in Parliament who can help the government make a balanced policy without marginalising the rights of any race.
“The responsibility of solving problems faced by the Indian community does not rest on my shoulders alone, but on the entire cabinet. We (the cabinet) will ensure that every policy made is for the people without marginalising anyone.
“Apart from the cabinet, there are also many Indian representatives in Parliament, including myself, who can help the community and highlight their aspirations,” he told reporters in Putrajaya today after clocking in for his first day at work.
Sivakumar, who is Batu Gajah MP, said his focus is to resolve issues related to employment and human resources.
He added that he will need a week or two to meet all agencies under the Human Resources Ministry to thoroughly understand their operations.
The 51-year-old parliamentarian defended his seat for the third term with a 53,836-vote majority, defeating Perikatan Nasional’s Woo Cheong Yuen and Barisan Nasional’s Teoh Chin Chong. – The Vibes, December 6, 2022
