KUALA LUMPUR – Umno has reportedly sacked former Ketereh MP Tan Sri Annuar Musa, a decision made by its supreme council last night.

Citing unnamed sources, Free Malaysia Today said the former communications and multimedia minister is among three party division leaders who got the axe for tarnishing the party’s image.

Annuar was also formerly Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general and Ketereh Umno division chief.

He was not fielded as a candidate for BN in the recent 15th general election.

The Vibes has contacted Annuar to confirm his sacking but has not received a response.

According to FMT, the other two division chiefs who were sacked last night are the Wanita chiefs of Arau and Maran, with more leaders to be sacked in due time, the portal’s sources said.

Annuar had been BN secretary-general from March 2020 to January 2021, when BN collaborated with Perikatan Nasional (PN) and had supported PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.

Annuar had also been consistently supportive of Umno’s pact with PAS under Muafakat Nasional, despite his party’s decision to stop working with the PN component part.

Following BN’s worst-ever performance in GE15 in which it won only 30 parliamentary seats, the coalition agreed to form a unity government led by Pakatan Harapan.

Annuar was then reported saying by New Straits Times that BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi “should sack himself” for going against Umno’s earlier decision not to work with Pakatan Harapan and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

After the Umno supreme council meeting last night, council member Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi had told the media that three division leaders had been sacked but would not reveal their names.

Puad said Zahid wanted to crack down on errant members “for belittling the party and over campaign issues”. – The Vibes, December 9, 2022
