KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Sri Annuar Musa has opened registration to his new non-governmental organisation (NGO), Muafakat Nasional, a day after being sacked from the party.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Annuar posted the link to his new NGO a week earlier than planned – supposedly due to growing demand.
He also posted the link to the NGO’s website along with a QR code for easy registration.
In a statement today, Annuar, who is also the organisation’s president, said membership is open to Malaysians aged 18 years old and above of all races and religions so long as their values align with the tenets of Muafakat Nasional.
On its website, Muafakat Nasional states it was established as a platform to strengthen the ummah based on the concept of Rukun Negara and the federal constitution.
Previously, Annuar announced that he was the president of Muafakat Nasional after he was dropped as a Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in the 15th general election.
The former Ketereh MP and Ketereh Umno division leader was sacked recently following his public criticism of party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Annuar has had a contentious relationship with Zahid, arguably stretching since the former’s removal as BN secretary-general in 2021.
Annuar, a proponent of BN-Perikatan Nasional cooperation, has been a vocal critic of Umno leadership in the past few years over its decision not to work with the Bersatu-led coalition.
Along with Annuar, two other leaders were also sacked from the party.
They are Arau Wanita Umno division chief Datuk Seri Shamsiah Yasin and her Maran counterpart Datin Seri Fatimah Kassim. This is after the duo allegedly supported the candidates of an opposing party in the 15th general election. – The Vibes, December 11, 2022
