Politicians must stop 'whoring out' SDs: Amanah’s Dzulkefly

KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad (Kuala Selangor-PH) has called out his political opponents from Perikatan Nasional (PN), telling them to stop “whoring” the use of statutory declarations (SDs) as justification of their purported majority to form a government.

In his debate, Dr Dzulkefly said the use of SDs was the cause of political uncertainty, especially after allegations by opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (Larut-PN) that PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (Pagoh-PN) has simple majority support via SDs to form the federal government.

Dr Dzulkefly also stressed that it was brave of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to call for a vote of confidence in his leadership to put an end to this speculation on any doubt of his legitimacy.

“In truth, we are facing a shift from a tumultuous political scene previously dependent on SDs.

“SDs are the source of all our problems. They have been auctioned, sold, even whored around to the extent that we faced constant instability leading to governments being toppled and three prime ministers during the 14th Parliament term.

“Why? Because of SDs. The same issue of SDs is now being brought up again by Pagoh (Muhyiddin). That is why Tambun (Anwar) is brave to prove his legitimacy,” he said, adding that the initiative will ensure the government’s stability.

Dr Dzulkefly then reiterated that PN lawmakers are again leaning on SDs to justify their arguments in Parliament today.

However, this led to many opposition lawmakers standing and objecting to his speech.

Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (Setiu-PN) then shouted that Anwar was afraid of the confidence vote and instead engaged in signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with all major parties in the unity government to secure his majority support.

“He is afraid, that is why they need to sign an MoU,’’ said Che Mohamad.

Dzulkefly brushed off the jeers, instead stressing that the act of selling SDs must stop.

“Among us, there are even those who sold their SDs three times over,” he said.

Che Mohamad then retorted that the MoU is being used to “blackmail” individual MPs who may not agree with it.

Dzulkefly then explained that the MoU is not a legally binding document, but rather a document that states the intention among signatories to establish and strengthen the unity government.

“There are no unconstitutional matters in the agreement,” said Dr Dzulkefly. – The Vibes, December 19, 2022
