KUALA LUMPUR – The home minister has assured that those who lost their MyKad and passports in the floods will get their replacements free of charge.
Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said these cases will also be prioritised as every department under his ministry is committed to serve the people.
“For example, it will be free for flood victims to get their replacement identification documents. Currently, we are prioritising saving lives,” he said in a press conference in Putrajaya today.
He added that flood evacuees should not be concerned about the safety of their houses as police are on patrol.
As for agencies under the Home Ministry, he said so far the access at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex in Rantau Panjang, Kelantan is cut off.
“We still have several border access points that are unaffected.”
As of 9am today, 71,954 victims have been evacuated to some 444 temporary shelters in five states as a result of the floods that devastated the east coast.
The majority of the victims are in Kelantan and Terengganu, according to data found on the Info Bencana Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat website. – The Vibes, December 21, 2022
