KUALA LUMPUR – Water supply resumption is in stages in more than 1,000 areas affected by the unscheduled disruption late last night due to an odour pollution incident at Rantau Panjang water treatment plant (WTP) intake.
Air Selangor said in a statement that water supply is being gradually restored to consumers from 6.30am today.
The Rantau Panjang WTP, Sg Selangor Phase 1 WTP, Sg Selangor Phase 2 WTP and Sg Selangor Phase 3 WTP are fully operational after they were temporarily shut down by the odour pollution incident.
“The duration of the water supply recovery in the affected areas will vary depending on the distance and location of the consumers’ premises.”
Air Selangor said it continues to mobilise water tankers to the affected areas, with priority given to critical premises such as hospitals, clinics, dialysis centres and funerals.
The affected areas are listed here.
The shutdown has affected districts of Petaling (370 areas), Gombak (279), Hulu Selangor (30), Klang and Shah Alam (189), Kuala Langat (3), Kuala Lumpur (186) and Kuala Selangor (280).
In a statement yesterday, Selangor Water Management Board (Luas) said initial checks found that the odour pollution was linked to diesel spills from activities using heavy machinery. – The Vibes, February 12, 2023
