IPOH – The Perak PAS chapter will defend its “muafakat” principles with Bersatu and Umno instead of taking sides.

Its state commissioner Razman Zakaria told reporters today that they will not abandon either one of the Muafakat Nasional/Perikatan Nasional coalition partners.

“Our relationship is still the same. We defend PAS’ principles, which clearly state that we will not be with Bersatu without Umno and we will not be with Umno without Bersatu. That is our principle,” said Razman, who is also Gunong Semanggol assemblyman.

Earlier, the PAS state leader attended the lengthy press conference held by Chenderiang assemblyman Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu in his capacity as caretaker menteri besar.

Faizal, who is Bersatu deputy president and state chief, had been ousted in a coup by Umno in yesterday’s state legislative assembly where he lost the confidence vote – 48 against, 10 in support and one vote that was damaged or abstained from.

When asked about the statement that PAS will not join any new state government, Razman said it was a directive from the central leadership for the Islamist party to remain with the PN coalition in Perak.

“If there’s (another) coalition (government), only Allah knows. We will discuss it when the time comes. Right now, we’ve been given the mandate to defend the current government and that government has already collapsed.

“We leave the formation of a new government to the party leadership,” said Razman. – The Vibes, December 5, 2020
