KUALA LUMPUR – E-hailing operator Maxim has ironed out its drivers’ permit renewals with the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) following a raid at the company’s office in Pahang.

Maxim, in a statement, said the main issue was that its drivers who held E-hailing Vehicle Permits (EVP) previously had not renewed them.

“The result of the discussion (with Apad) was that the EVP licenses of those drivers who had previously obtained them must be renewed. Since this information had not been previously brought to (our) attention, Maxim’s employees proceeded to update the data,” the company said.

It said it was represented by its company director, licensing specialist and lead user support specialist at a meeting with Apad officers a few days ago.

“The company is eager to legalise its drivers and is continuously informing and reminding them about the importance of the EVP licence.

It was reported last week that Maxim’s head office in Kuantan was raided by the Road Transport Department (RTD), which found that the firm’s drivers had been providing e-hailing services without valid permits.

The RTD said that of the 5,000 vehicles that operated under Maxim, only 402 had valid permits.

This is a violation of Section 12A(5) of the Land Public Transportation Act 2010, for which wrongdoers face a fine of between RM1,000 and RM500,000, or a jail term of up to two years. – The Vibes, March 16, 2023
