SEREMBAN – The coroner’s court today was told that the post-mortem performed on Irish-French teenager Nora Anne Quoirin’s body on August 14 last year was attended by an investigator from France.

Petaling Jaya police chief Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the investigator attended the autopsy at Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital here, following a request from Nora Anne’s family.

“On the post-mortem, the family requested to have an investigator from abroad to be present... so I requested for clearance from then deputy IGP Datuk Mazlan Mansor and he agreed.

“We have nothing to hide. It (autopsy) went on for nine hours, and (among) those present during the autopsy was Laurent Collomb, an investigator from the France National Police,” said Nik Ezanee, who is the 45th witness in the inquest proceedings to determine the cause of the teenager’s death.

Today is the 22nd day of the inquest proceeding before coroner Maimoonah Aid.

Nik Ezanee, who acted as liaison officer for Nora Anne’s family during the incident, said Collomb informed him of his observation on the post-mortem after the process was completed.

“When Collomb came out of the post-mortem room, he said, ‘Wow... there is no doubt in my mind that the pathologist has performed (the autopsy) in the most professional way’,” he said, adding that he also received a message of appreciation from French Ambassador to Malaysia Frederic Laplanche.

Nik Ezanee informed the court that three other investigators, from Ireland and Britain, also assisted in investigations.

Earlier, the 44th witness, C. Tharmalingam, from Bukit Aman’s Crime Scene Investigation unit, in his testimony, said there were stains, believed to be blood, obtained during inspection at a toilet at Sora House, where Nora Anne and her family stayed upon arriving in Malaysia.

He said the stains were visible by using luminol spray in the inspection conducted on August 6 last year, which was two days after the teenager was reported missing.

“When my team and I inspected Sora House, to the naked eye, we did not find any traces of blood. But when we used luminol spray, we found traces of it at the ground floor toilet.”

He said the blood samples were handed over to investigating officer Inspector Wan Faridah Mustanin for further action.

Nora Anne, 15, was found missing on August 4 last year, a day after she and her family arrived in Malaysia for a two-week vacation at a resort in Pantai here, about 60km south of Kuala Lumpur. On August 13, 10 days after she was reported missing, her body was found near a creek about 2.5km from the resort where she and her family stayed, following a massive search.

The preliminary post-mortem report stated that no criminal element was involved in her death, and that the cause of death was due to gastrointestinal bleeding from prolonged hunger and stress.

The inquest continues tomorrow. – Bernama, December 8, 2020
