KUALA LUMPUR – A task force established by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has opened seven investigation papers to probe into alleged crimes involving race, religion and insulting the royal institution (3R).
According to PDRM secretary Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin, the cases were detected from March 27 to April 6.
Four of the investigation papers relate to insults to the royal institution, two on religious affronts and one involving racial sentiments.
In a statement today, Noorsiah said two individuals have been arrested to facilitate investigations into accusations linked with the royal institution and racial narratives while another suspect is being traced.
“Out of the seven investigation papers, three have been referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers in line with Article 145(3) of the federal constitution while the other four are still being completed by the Classified Crimes Investigation Unit.
“PDRM advises the public to not upload sensitive material that touches on the 3R aspects. Such postings can lead to slander and offence to the point where public hate is incited.
“Any form of spreading fake news that could incite public fear through social media platforms will face legal action under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, the Sedition Act 1948 and offences outlined in the Penal Code,” Noorsiah said.
She also said that the taskforce to investigate 3R-related matters was formed on March 22 and is led by the Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan.
