KUALA LUMPUR – Transport Minister Anthony Loke has confirmed that Prasarana Malaysia Bhd will be initiating legal action over service disruptions on the Ampang LRT line.

Speaking at a press conference here today, Loke said that Prasarana will be taking legal action in a bid to regain losses incurred due to structural repairs carried out on six stops between the line’s Bandaraya and Masjid Jamek stations.

“Prasarana will take appropriate legal action to recoup the construction costs and the impact caused by the works,” he said briefly when questioned by reporters on the matter.

When asked whether any parties will face the brunt of the law for disrupting the train’s services, the Seremban MP said that such matters will be addressed in legal proceedings.

“It is best to leave it to the courts to decide,” Loke, who is also DAP secretary-general, said.

In February, Loke said that strengthening and comprehensive repair works on the affected stations are expected to be completed in September

He added that Prasarana will implement mitigating steps to avoid such disruptions in the future, and make sure users are comfortable at all times.

This came after Ampang LRT operator Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd said that preliminary observations indicated that the kinked railway alignment near the Bandaraya station was a result of construction works adjacent to the area concerned.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall has since issued a stop-work order to the construction of the 44-storey Soho Tower project.

However, sources later told The Vibes that initial findings revealed that the damage to the rail track and pier were possibly due to shoddy maintenance work.

It was learnt then that the matter was discovered after the incident occurred on an early Friday morning, January 27, after nearly 14 days of running rail replacements and follow-up work. – The Vibes, April 18, 2023
