PUTRAJAYA – The government plans to develop a National Mineral Policy within three months in accordance with the current standard operating procedures for rare-earth mining, according to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He said the policy is aimed at managing the nation’s mineral resources responsibly, balancing economic and revenue needs with environmental sustainability.

“The potential contribution of minerals to national revenue is quite big, while our current mineral reserves are valued at around RM4 trillion.

“Therefore, efforts taken to develop mineral resources should be orderly and organised so the economic needs do not affect the people’s social welfare, as well as the environment,” he said after chairing the second National Mineral Council meeting here today. – Bernama, May 8, 2023
