KOTA KINABALU – Tourists from Brunei are now permitted to enter Sabah by both land and air, seeing as the sultanate’s coronavirus situation has improved.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the National Security Council had agreed yesterday to a proposal by the state government to allow tourists from Brunei Darussalam to enter Sabah by road and air.
“Travellers from Brunei however are subject to conditions such as undertaking Covid-19 tests three days before the trip, as spelled out under Sabah’s conditional movement control order standard operating procedures.”
He said the decision was made as Brunei was not on the list of 23 countries whose travellers are barred from entering Malaysia.
Brunei has had no new Covid-19 cases for 215 days.
“This move is also expected to boost the state’s economic sector,” said Masidi.
When asked whether travellers from other countries not on the list, such as China, would be allowed entry into Sabah, Masidi said the matter will be looked into on a case-by-case basis.
“The overall consideration is to ensure that the opening up of the border for that specific country will not in any way jeopardise the current good work of the Health Department in Sabah.” – The Vibes, December 11, 2020
