PUTRAJAYA – Malaysia today continued to record high number of daily Covid-19 cases at 1,937 and nine new deaths. 

Selangor is the state with the highest number of new cases at 823, followed by Sabah (429) and Kuala Lumpur (238).

Of the total, 725 cases are from temporary detention centres – Jalan Harapan prison (565), Rumah Merah (112), Tembok (43 kes) and Seberang Prai Prison (5).

Meanwhile, of the nine deaths, four are in Sabah, three in Johor, and one each in Penang and Selangor.

Currently, Malaysia has a total of 82,246 cases and a death toll of 411.

Active cases stand at 13,751, 121 under intensive care and 66 with ventilator aid.

Today, three new clusters have been detected, all involving the workplace.

The Bukit Gemok cluster’s index case was recorded on December 5 and after 71 individuals screened, 10 are found to have Covid-19. The cluster is in Tawau, Sabah.

The Cendana construction site cluster has 11 positive cases while its index case was detected on Thursday. So far, 175 people have been screened. It involves Lembah Pantai, Titiwangsa and Cheras.

The Dang Mutiara cluster involves Gombak in Selangor and Terengganu’s Kemaman and Dungun districts. It has 10 Covid-19 cases after 102 individuals screened.

The index case was recorded on Wednesday after a screening prior to boarding an oil platform. The patient is currently at the Sg Buloh Hospital.

Johor today recorded 105 new cases, followed by Penang (102), Pahang (79), Perak (62), Negri Sembilan (49), Kedah (16), Melaka (15), Labuan (11) and Terengganu (6).

Sarawak and Kelantan each have one case, while Putrajaya and Perlis have none. – The Vibes, December 12, 2020
