KUALA LUMPUR – The legislation currently governing land administration in Kg Baru will be amended to no longer apply to the village, with another act to be introduced in its place, Tan Sri Annuar Musa told the Dewan Rakyat today.
The Federal Territories minister said Putrajaya is set to replace the Malay Agricultural Settlement Act, which will cease to be relevant to land administration, town planning and management in Kg Baru.
Annuar (BN-Ketereh) said the new law, to be known as the Kg Baru Development Act, has been approved by the cabinet, and was submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers last month.
It will be tabled in Parliament soon, he said.
“So far, 40% of Kg Baru landlords do not agree with the development of the area. To forcibly take action would be unfair.
“What we are doing is amending the law, and introducing a new act,” he said during his ministry’s budget debate at the committee stage.
He said his team has explained to the Finance Ministry the direction of the development for Kg Baru.
At this time, said Annuar, things need to be done in stages, including holding an engagement session with residents, landowners, and the Kg Baru Landowners and Beneficiaries’ Association to avoid any misunderstanding.
“We have also identified several parcels of land in Kg Baru to be developed immediately by the private sector.
“That is why in Budget 2021, no large allocation was given to the Federal Territories Ministry, because everything is still in the planning stage.” – The Vibes, December 14, 2020
