I’m not sure how your holidays are progressing but the closest I got this past week to a workout was a mix of brisk walking and weight training.

Well, it may not have been a workout in the traditional sense but dodging mall-goers whilst carrying gift loads of shopping bags is akin to a workout, right?

To be fair, exercising whilst gift shopping isn’t the most ideal movement routine, but you do what you can to get your ‘holiday priorities done right’.

Once the Christmas feasting on turkey and fruitcake has wounded down and work starts to beckon from around the corner, you find yourself having to shift back to normal life despite not feeling ready to face the new year.

If you’re anything like me, it usually takes several days to get back into the swing of things once you press pause on your daily routine.

Perhaps you’re still grappling with all that’s happened in 2020 and can’t look beyond today, let alone the thought of stepping into the gym.

It’s okay, take it easy. Start with a single step: move away from your desk or put down your phone. Close your eyes and take a couple of deep breaths.

If you’re still wound-up thinking about your to-do list, take a walk; a change of scenery will help ease your mind so you can tackle that list with added productivity.

If you’re in comfy pants, trying to meet your work-from-home deadlines and walking isn’t your cup of tea, I’ve got the perfect ‘movement snack’ for you.

I call it the ‘I-know-I'll-feel-better-after-moving-but-I-don’t-feel-like-it-right-now’ workout. The best part: it’s under 10 minutes.

C’mon, you can do it.

Grab a mat and let’s recharge from all the bustle!

This restorative Pilates session is the only workout that has you lying down on a mat half the time.

Trust me, that deadline can wait a couple of minutes as your mind and body will thank you after. ─ The Vibes, 30 December, 2020
