KUALA LUMPUR – Jogging gets the go-ahead throughout the first phase of the total lockdown, but with stricter standard operating procedures (SOPs), while cycling will not be allowed when the implementation starts on Tuesday.

The government had on Friday announced a total lockdown after a seeing a surge in Covid-19 cases.

Individuals may exercise and jog only in their respective residential areas from 7am to 8pm.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican told The Vibes: “The whole idea of this lockdown is to restrict people’s movement, which has been proven to break the chain of infection.”

“A small concession has been given for jogging with stricter SOPs, of course, as long as people stay within their areas and an open space.

“The Health Ministry reckons that if these SOPs are followed strictly, the cases will reduce and they can open up more in the next stage.

“This is to address the mental health issue of people who will be staying mostly at home during the lockdown.” – The Vibes, May 30, 2021
