TOH Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid today said the contents of a police report, which had since gone viral, were false and preposterous.
"The individual who lodged the report approached me and offered his services in July 2025 as part of a proposed communications team.
"Due to his poor job performance, he was terminated. After his termination, he had attempted to make further monetary demands.
"This is clearly the conduct of a disgruntled man," she said in a statement.
The widow of the late Tun Daim Zainuddin said the timing of the report - seven months after the alleged meeting and on the heels of the allegedly biggest scandals facing the government points to a desperate attempt to distract them from growing calls to remove the person who leads the MACC.
"The claim that I am trying to destabilise or topple the government is laughable.
"How does one topple the government with the help of the international media, or for that matter, a public relations firm?
"If that were the case, countless Malaysian governments in the past would have been replaced all the time," she said.
Since when has seeking professional public relations advice been a crime, she asked.
Naimah said she was 'flattered' by the claim that she was behind the investigative report by Bloomberg.
"I do not wish to take credit away from those who truly put their journalistic skills and talents to work to uncover the shocking allegations surrounding the MACC chief.
"Therefore, any attempt to suggest that I am behind the reporting is not only irresponsible, but also an insult to the journalists concerned," she said.
Naimah added that it was absurd to suggest that pointing out corruption and abuse of power at the highest levels of government is an attempt to topple the government.
"I reserve all my legal rights in respect of those false and damaging allegations," she added.
It was earlier reported that police have launched an investigation into claims of a conspiracy to topple the government and undermine national stability, reportedly involving a prominent local figure and an international media agency.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the inquiry follows a police report lodged on 26 February.
"I confirm receiving a police report yesterday (Feb 26), and we are conducting an investigation into allegations of an attempt to overthrow the government and sabotage the stability of the country involving an influential local individual and an international media agency," he said.
According to the police report lodged by an editor at the Brickfields police station, which had since gone viral, a prominent family with assets worth billions of ringgit allegedly engaged a London-based firm to pressure Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.
The family engaged the strategic communications firm, which specialises in influencing national policy and the direction of specific issues, in July last year.
The editor claimed that he had met a member of the family concerned to discuss the possibility of collaborating on a biography and a documentary.
However, he claimed that he was invited to a Zoom meeting where the issue of attacking the government was discussed and decided not to pursue the collaboration. - February 27, 2026
