BANGKOK – Heavy rains and water released from Bang Lang Dam in Yala have worsened the flood situation in southern Thailand causing the number of families affected to rise.
The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department said in a statement here, downpours in the four provinces namely Narathiwat, Yala, Pattani and Songkhla since January 4 had affected more than 37,000 families from 27 districts.
It said 22,308 families were affected in Narathiwat, the worst-affected province, followed by 12,082 in Yala, 2,810 in Pattani, and 60 families in Songkhla.
“To date, no casualties were reported,” read the statement.
It said about 391 victims were evacuated to temporary relief centres in the four provinces. – Bernama, January 8, 2021
