SINGAPORE – Royal Caribbean International today confirmed that one of the guests aboard its Quantum of the Seas has tested positive for Covid-19.

A medical team on board the vessel detected the infection, it said in a statement.

"We identified and isolated all guests and crew who had close contact with this guest, and each of those individuals subsequently tested negative for the virus," it said.

The ship is returning to port today in accordance with government protocols, and guests will debark after a review of the contact tracing has been completed, it said.

Quantum of the Seas is one of the “safe cruises” launched last month with enhanced safety protocols. The pilot cruises began on November 6 with Genting Cruise Lines’ World Dream while Quantum of the Seas began sailing this month.

"We are in communication with the Singapore government, and appreciate their guidance as we work together to protect the health and safety of our guests and crew.

"We worked closely with the government to develop a thorough system that tests and monitors all guests and crew and follows public health best practices.

"That we were able to quickly identify this single case and take immediate action is a sign that the system is working as it was designed to do," said Royal Caribbean International.

In announcing the pilot cruises on October 8, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said it will be round-trips with no ports of call, sailing at a reduced capacity of up to 50%, and open only to Singapore residents. – Bernama, December 9, 2020
