A BLIND man had a lucky escape after he fell into an uncovered drain while heading to the national mosque in Kuala Lumpur.
The man's wife, Nadia, said on TikTok that her sightly impaired husband fell into the drain which was left open; the metal covers likely stolen.
Her husband was walking along the tactile walkway when the incident occurred.
Tactile paving, also known as ground surface indicators or detectable warning plates, is designed to notify a visually impaired pedestrian of any changes in the area.
Fortunately, the victim had his mobile phone with him and managed to contact his wife.
The victim did not suffer serious injuries in the incident.
Nadia also called on the public to report cases of uncovered drains and manholes along walkways to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
While expressing relief that the victim escaped unhurt, netizens said it is common for manhole covers to be stolen, often by drug addicts looking for quick money.
The pilfered metal covers are then sold to scrap dealers. – The Vibes, December 4, 2023.
