DATUK Seri Hajiji Noor is upset over those who constantly scoff at the state’s “Sabah Maju Jaya” slogan in social media which he said is supposed to encapsulate the spirit of embracing progress and success.
"To me, mocking and belittling the Sabah Maju Jaya slogan is akin to disrespecting the state," he said during the 2024 state and federal civil service address and gathering at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) in Kota Kinabalu, today.
Hajiji also reiterated his promise to address the issue of basic needs like electricity, water, housing and others, adding that his three-year-old administration has implemented various measures to deal with them.
For instance, he said the Sabah Energy Road Map and Master Plan blueprint aims to stabilise the widespread electricity supply problem in Sabah by 2040.
The same with the ongoing upgrade of the Water Treatment Plants in Tuaran and Papar, as well as the construction of dams, to deal with the shortage of treated water supply in the West Coast areas in Sabah, which are expected to be completed in a few years.
The Sulaman assemblyman also highlighted the success of the government’s business ventures, especially in the oil and gas industry.
Hajiji announced the establishment of the state-owned oil and gas company, SMJ Petroleum Sdn Bhd (now known as SMJ Energy Sdn Bhd), on December 7, 2021.
As of December 2023, SMJ Energy has assets exceeding RM5 billion, he said, adding that the 50% stake the company obtained in the Samarang Production Contract, 25% share in the Sabah Ammonia and Urea Plant (Samur) in Sipitang, and 10% ownership in the LNG9 at the Bintulu LNG Complex in Sarawak had been profitable.
SMJ Energy obtained these stakes through the acquisition of the troubled Sabah International Petroleum (SIP) in November 2023.
“SMJ Energy successfully sold crude oil three times in August 2023, October 2023, and January 2024 through its 50% interest in Samarang PSC to international oil companies, generating a combined gross income of approximately RM371 million,” he said. - The Vibes, March 4, 2024
