MCMC denies requesting removal of Terengganu MB’s TikTok videos

THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said it had not made any request to TikTok to remove videos from Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar’s account.

“The MCMC categorically states that it has never submitted any request to TikTok to remove content as claimed.

“The affected user is encouraged to reach out directly to TikTok Malaysia at [email protected] for any clarification regarding this matter,” the commission said in a statement today.

The commission was responding to claims made by Selangor PAS information chief Zurk Ahmad that it labelled as unfounded, misleading, and damaging to MCMC’s image.

In a statement yesterday, Zurk questioned the rationale behind the removal of videos from Samsuri’s account, as they did not touch on 3R (race, religion, royalty) sensitivities.

“This is a violation of the right to freedom of speech. If you oppose, you are muted, that is the consequence of speaking out against the Madani administration. As a result, the country fell 34 steps in the World Media Freedom Index.

“The state of the government today is like a crack waiting to be split apart and almost all the actions of the government failed and are criticised by the people and foreign countries,” Zurk said.

Although Zurk did not explicitly name MCMC as being responsible for the removal of said videos, he hinted that the government and its agencies appeared to be closely monitoring the social media accounts of opposition leaders. – July 19, 2024.
