THE decommissioned Penang ferry "Pulau Kapas" sank yesterday at the Butterworth Wharf, The Star reports.
Penang Port Commission (PPC) general manager Vijayaindiaran R. Visvalingam said efforts were made to salvage the ferry to no avail.
"Its hull had been rotting for some time and corrosion had set in since it was 'parked' at the wharf from 2018," he said.
Vijayaindiaran said the PPC will meet today to discuss whether to salvage the ferry or scrap it.
"There are no takers for ferries to be converted into restaurants due to the high cost."
Pulau Kapas was one of the four ferries that were decommissioned in 2020.
The other ferries were Pulau Undan, Pulau Paya, and Pulau Talang Talang. – July 24, 2024.
