KUALA LUMPUR - The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has urged all Malaysians to remain calm following Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's claim of parliamentary majority support and His Majesty's warding in hospital.
In a statement issued this afternoon (Aug 23), Istana Negara's Comptroller of the Royal Household, Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, said the king also urged the people to take care of their health and abide by standard operating procedures of the country which is still facing the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The statement also said the king extends his thanks to all the nation's people, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, cabinet ministers and other individuals, including Anwar who has prayed for His Majesty's well-being.
The statement confirmed the PKR leader's earlier claim that he had an appointment for an audience with His Majesty on Tuesday (Sept 22), but it was postponed as the king was warded at the National Heart Institute (IJN) after reportedly feeling unwell on the same day.
The statement, however, did not indicate when a rescheduled meeting would take place.
"Currently, Al-Sultan Abdullah will still continue treatment under the supervision of medical specialists at the IJN," the statement said.
"In this regard, Al-Sultan Abdullah has called on all parties to prioritise the well-being of the people as well as the beloved country, may we be blessed by Allah SWT."
The king also urged the people to join His Majesty in praying that Malaysia would be protected from all threats and would be blessed with everlasting prosperity.
This afternoon, Anwar, who is PKR president claimed he had the majority of support of parliamentarians, insisting the current administration under Muhyiddin Yassin "has collapsed".
Anwar also said he was due to have an audience with the Agong yesterday morning but the meeting was postponed due to the medical treatment. – The Vibes, September 23, 2020.
