Sabah Wildlife officers shoot dead man-eating crocodile

SABAH Wildlife Department officers shot dead a crocodile after it killed an Indonesian plantation worker fishing in Sungai Matamba, Bernama reports

Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station chief Sumsoa Rashid said the officers shot the 4.6-metre-long crocodile five times before they retrieved the body of 45-year-old Rusdi Tambah from the reptile’s jaws.

“We received an emergency call around 10 am. Witnesses reported that a plantation worker fishing by the riverbank had been attacked by the crocodile. A search operation was launched within a 500-metre radius along the river,” said Sumsoa.

A fire department team, along with local residents, found the victim with the crocodile about 50m from where the attack occurred. The Wildlife Department was called for assistance.

Sumsoa confirmed the victim was dead and his body was handed over to police.

“The crocodile’s carcass was brought ashore and handed over to the Wildlife Department. – September 13, 2024.
