DATUK Seri Hajiji Noor is considering holding the Sabah election before his term expires in October next year.

The Sabah chief minister said he has yet to decide a date as he urged members of his Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to be prepared for such a possibility.

"The next state election will be held no later than October next year, so I will think about when to hold it. If I decide on an earlier date, then it will be so, which is why we need to be prepared from now," he said during a GRS function held in Kunak, today.

The Sabah election which was the 16th state election took place on September 26, 2020 and Hajiji was sworn in as chief minister on September 29, 2020.

Meanwhile, on another issue, he said the Sabah government was forced to pay RM315 million in compensation after the previous Warisan administration terminated the concessions of nine water treatment plant operators across the state.

He accused Warisan of worsening the water crisis by ending these contracts out of spite, leading to mismanagement and legal disputes.

He criticised Warisan for appointing inexperienced companies to replace the previous operators, which he said exacerbated the state's water issues. - September 23, 2024
